Originally launched in 1973 under the editorial direction of Jinichi Uekusa, Wonderland was a bold and experimental Japanese magazine that sought to blend counterculture, underground art, and progressive journalism.
The magazine ran for only six issues, with the third issue rebranded as Takarajima (宝島, “Treasure Island”).
The magazine large-format design, makes a striking visual impact thanks to the contributions of graphic designers Kōga Hirano and Heikichi Harata. However, after the sixth issue, publication was abruptly suspended in 1974.

Despite its short lifespan, Wonderland – Takarajima remains an iconic example of Japan’s 1970s avant-garde press.
