12 Months of Punishment is a rare and significant work by Itō Seiu, often regarded as the father of modern Japanese kinbaku art. This first edition exemplifies Itō’s distinctive blend of Kinbaku and eroticism.
This work presents a series of 16 illustrations, each corresponding to a month of the year, depicting various forms of punishment intertwined with seasonal events. Accompanying each illustration is a short text on washi paper, providing insight into the artist’s inspirations and the cultural context of the depicted punishments.
This book has been reprinted later in lower quality, without washi paper and separated illustrations.
