Well known as an eminent photographer of women such as gravure, idols and nudes, Kishin Shinoyama always had a strong curiosity for the “human smell” of architecture, space, food, etc.
Meaning of the house is a rare and early masterpiece alongside 28 girls, Olele Olala, and A fine day.

Over a period of years, Shinoyama traveled across Japan to photograph approximately 80 houses, from modern to traditional, inhabited to ruination — capturing the subtle traces of life and memory in architectural space. His aim was to evoke the “human smell” of the house: the lived, tactile, atmospheric qualities that transform mere structures into homes.
