Cowboy Kate is a landmark in the history of photography, as revered today as it was first published fifty years ago. It is a lyrical tale played out by a dynamic heroine who saves herself. Haskins reinvented the genre of the nude with stunningly well-executed photographs, a cinematic approach, and a subtly engaging narrative.
‘Cowboy Kate and Other Stories’ (1964) is the second book in the groundbreaking 60’s figure themed trilogy, which started with ‘Five Girls’ (1962) and culminated in the meditation of longing for a lost love in ‘November Girl’ (1967).
This is a second edition (published by Haskins Press in 1975) of the seminal sixties classic. Although published in 1975 the book is based on 1,500 unbound copies of the original 1964 edition which were found in the Swiss printer’s warehouse after the death of their leading printer forced a closure of the business. Each copy is individually stamped and numbered by The Sam Haskins Estate.
A very nice copy
