Izima Kaoru is a Japanese photographer who was very active in the fashion scene at the peak of the 1980s economic boom. He became famous for his portraits and cover photos of many famous artists. He was also editor-in-chief of zyappu, a progressive fashion magazine which closed in 1999.
Last seen scenery is a series of portraits from Ishima’s famous Corpse Series, featuring celebrity actresses as models.
Izima Kaoru asked each model one question: “How do you imagine your death?” The result? Stunningly intimate portraits where celebrity actresses like Haruka Igawa, Mari Natsuki, Ai Tominaga, and Mika Nakashima embody their imagined final moments. Shot in the early 2000s, these images blur the line between fashion, life, and the ephemeral nature of beauty.

A hauntingly beautiful meditation on mortality and art
