A rare visual survey of Japan’s erotic and underground culture in early 1980s Japan, compiled by Hiroshi Takano. Working with writers such as Ryuichiro Kitahama and Inatoshi Kuwahara, Takano documents the shift from the sexual liberation of the early ’70s to the rise of Turkish baths, SM clubs, lesbian bars, private-room cafés, love-massage parlors, and telephone clubs.
The book also captures major subcultures of the era — bosozoku, tattoo culture, and delinquent girl tribes — with accompanying texts by renowned photographer Hiromi Tsuchida.
